What is an OFA Eye Exam?

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Eye Certification Exam is a specialized screening designed to detect hereditary eye diseases in dogs. These exams help responsible breeders and pet owners identify congenital or inherited eye conditions, ensuring that only healthy dogs contribute to future generations.

OFA eye exams are recommended for breeding dogs, working dogs, and any pet at risk of genetic eye disorders. Common conditions evaluated include progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), cataracts, glaucoma, corneal dystrophy, and retinal dysplasia.
